Workers went on rampage in 3 of the 17 Korean Youngone Ltd companies in Chittagong Export Processing Zone (CEPZ ) for implementation of wage increase. 3 persons reportedly killed in police firing and hundreds injured in the clash with police. All factories in Chittagong have been closed. The Chairman of the 'Youngone group' where about 40 workers are employed asked Govt for protection or else they will wind up investment from Bangladesh. Similar incidents also occurred in factories at Rupganj (Narayanganj), Savar, Joydevpur and Kaliakoir.

Bangladesh clinched the 1 day cricket series 3-1 with a comprehensive six-wicket victory over Zimbabwe at Chittagong today.

Home Minister Sahara Khatun on Sunday claimed that the recent TIB survey report, which found police administration as the most corrupt institution in the country, was meant for creating inconsistency among the law enforcers and to weaken their mental strengths.

The Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) last week revealed its public opinion survey report showing police as the most corrupt institution in the country. The survey took into account people's opinions on corruption and their experience about it. The findings were as follows:

1. Top corrupt sector: police 79%, civil servants 68%, political parties 58%, Judiciary 43%, parliament 32%

2. Top petty graft takers: Police 76%, Judiciary 64%, Land Service 48%, Registry 47%, Utility 34%, Edu System 28%....


Removal of overhead Internet and cable TV wires on thoroughfares between Uttara and Shahbagh in the capital is going on. Its likely to disrupt the internet and cable services in many areas of the city for next seven days or more.
